Medical Care & Symptom Management
The hospice team works closely with the patient’s physician to create a care plan that meets the patient’s needs – medical, emotional, spiritual, and practical. The patient’s physician receives regular updates about the patient’s condition and is consulted for changes in treatments as they are needed. Each hospice team also includes a Hospice Medical Director, a physician with specialized expertise and training in managing the symptoms associated with advanced illness. The Medical Director’s role is to oversee the medical component of the hospice patient’s care, managing symptoms associated with pain, nausea, shortness of breath, anxiety, agitation, depression, fatigue and many others.
