Good Shepherd Hospice expands bereavement support services to Spanish speaking population

Good Shepherd Hospice is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Long Island Community Foundation to develop bereavement support groups for Hispanic and Latino families and to increase community outreach to families who have experienced the death of a loved one.  The Good Shepherd bereavement support groups will be facilitated by culturally competent Spanish-speaking bereavement counselors to work in collaboration with Good Shepherd child life and grief specialists.

“The death of a parent or adult caregiver is very traumatic for children and can lead to long term emotional and physical problems if not effectively addressed,” noted Maribeth McKeever, director of bereavement services for Good Shepherd Hospice, “it is our goal to expand the scope of services to include Spanish speaking programming to meet the needs of Hispanic and Latino families.”
